Yale Applications / Admissions / Interviews

Rebecca Haltzel-Haas, our Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) Director, reports that the 2016-17 ASC interviewing season was a busy one.  Worldwide, Yale College received almost 33,000 applications—the highest number of applications ever submitted.  We had approximately 100 applicants from Germany, for which our alumni conducted 35 interviews.  With 7 offers of admission to the Class of 2021, the admission rate of those applicants mirrored the overall admissions rate.

Keith Light, the admissions officer responsible for applications from Germany, visited schools in Frankfurt, Berlin and Hamburg this fall.  If you would like to join the ASC and interview candidates (in person or virtually), we are always looking for additional volunteers!  You may contact Rebecca or join via the ASC website:  http://asc.yale.edu

The ASC is a network of alumni volunteers who share a passion for Yale and conduct interviews on behalf of Undergraduate Admissions with the goals of:

  1. Providing crucial information about applicants to Yale so that the admissions committee can make better decisions as it shapes the freshman class; and
  2. Establishing a Yale presence that educates the local applicants and community about Yale’s unique opportunities, values, and character.

Yale Alumni event, Sept 21, Hamburg: Ausstellungseröffnung Museum für Völkerkunde

Dear Friends,

Hamburg’s Museum of Ethnology, founded in 1879 and one of the largest museums of ethnology in Europe, has a new director: Prof. Dr. BARBARA PLANKENSTEINER, who was the Frances & Benjamin Benenson Foundation Curator of African Art at Yale’s Art Gallery before; Yale Club of Germany’s Hamburg-chapter reached out to Prof. Plankensteiner, and she would be glad to welcome us to the opening of the first exhibition under her directorship

Please let me know if you want to join me, I’m looking forward to have as many of you as possible here in Hamburg!

AYA Club delegate wanted!

Dear friends, the Yale Club of Germany is looking for a member to serve as the club’s delegate to the Yale Alumni Association for the next 3 years (2016-18).

Your duties as AYA delegate will chiefly involve travelling to New Haven each November (on the weekend of the last home football game) to represent the club at the annual AYA Assembly. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit campus, meet alumni from all over the world and to attend a range of discussion and workshop sessions, fireside chats, the Yale Medal Dinner, and of course the Yale football game.

More information about the AYA assembly can be found here:

If you are interested in becoming our next AYA delegate, get in touch with David Ilten or Hans Christian Siller.
