News from the YaleClub Germany

Dear friends,

please find below the invitation to our upcoming annual meeting weekend at Schloss Wartin on Sept. 21-22nd. The Schloss alone is worth a trip, and we have very family friendly pricing, so we hope to see many of you there!

We have a wide variety of other events coming up as well - the Berlin Ivy+ Stammtisch is meeting this Thursday, and there are other Ivy Circle meetups coming up in Hamburg and Munich, a fall Hike near Frankfurt and a museum trip in Stuttgart...

Schloss Wartin Weekend with Annual Meeting

Schloss Wartin Weekend with Annual Meeting

The Yale Club of Germany will hold this year’s annual meeting at the 18th century Schloss Wartin, an educational foundation hosting academic conferences and cultural events, founded by two Yalies. The Schloss is approx. 90 minutes northeast of Berlin; the closest train station is Casekow.

Come to just the meeting on Sept. 22, or turn it into a lovely "Landpartie" in the company of fellow Yalies.

Alumni and their guests are welcome to enjoy dinner Friday evening, bed-n-breakfast, the meeting Saturday morning, and lunch afterwards--all in the beautiful manor house owned and lovingly restored by Charles Elworthy (Yale Graduate School ’88) and Jochen Mengel (Yale Law School ’87).

For those who have never been to the Schloss, the grounds lend themselves to leisurely walks: wander by gaggling geese, croaking frogs and New Zealand sheep! Children are welcome.

Cost including room and full board for one person will be approx. 60€; for a couple, 100€. Attendance is "needs blind": the Stiftung Collegium Wartinum will cover full or partial accommodation and meal expenses for those who would not otherwise be able to attend.

Hope to see you there!

Friday, September 21

-leisurly arrival in the afternoon / evening
-spending the night at the Schloss

Saturday, September 22

-annual meeting of the Yale Club e.V. at 11:00 am
-free time to explore the beauty of the Schloss and the parc.
-the musically inclined are invited to attend a concert at the Schloss at 4:00 pm

Yale Club of Germany Hike in the Taunus

Yale Club of Germany Hike in the Taunus, Sun October 21st

Whether you live in the greater Frankfurt area or not, you’re invited to join a Yale Club afternoon of hiking in the Taunus. Feel free to bring your families or friends. Einstein the Golden Retriever will be joining us as well!

• 1:18 p.m. (arrival of the S2)— Meet at Eppstein Bahnhof. The station has unlimited free parking. If you are arriving from Frankfurt by train, take the 12:52 S2 train from the Hauptbahnhof (direction of Niedernhausen).

• 1:30 p.m. — We’ll start our hike from the station, following the “Ritter Eppo” path overlooking Eppstein’s old town and castle ruins.

• 2:30 p.m. — We should have arrived at the Kaisertempel (1894) scenic overlook; for those who do not wish to hike so far, you can meet us at the Kaisertempel, maybe even have lunch there beforehand; from there we’ll start hiking over the Staufen to Gimbacher Hof, a wonderful place with scrumptious homemade cakes of all varieties in a farm-like setting.

• From Gimbacher Hof, we’ll take a slightly quicker, not quite as strenuous path back over to Eppstein. We should return by 6:30 p.m. Train travelers can shorten the hike by catching the train in Kelkheim after our refreshments at Gimbacher Hof.

Do come and enjoy some good exercise and camaraderie! Please RSVP via email, so I can reserve a table for us at Gimbacher Hof and send you my cell phone number for the day of the hike.
