 efense policy\, and conflict theory. \n​One of Canada’s foremost publ
 ic intellectuals and a best-selling author\, his award-winning books inclu

 lization\; The Ingenuity Gap: Can We Solve the Problems of the Future?\; 
 and Environment\, Scarcity\, and Violence. His latest book\, Commanding 
 Hope: The Power We Have to Renew a World in Peril\, was published by Knopf
  Canada in 2020. He writes regularly for the Globe and Mail and has publis
 hed in Foreign Affairs\, Foreign Policy\, Scientific American\, the New Yo
 rk Times\, the Washington Post\, and the Financial Times.\n​Co-Moderator
  David Ehinger is a retired Canadian diplomat and international lawyer. He
  was born in Winnipeg\, where he studied History at the University of Winn
 ipeg and Law at the University of Manitoba. After a short time in private 
 practice\, he completed his education with advanced degrees in Law and Int
 ernational Relations at the Universities of Virginia and Cambridge. During
  his career with the Canadian public service\, he specialised in public In
 ternational law and served at the Canadian diplomatic missions in Geneva\,
  Washington\, Berlin and Madrid. He now lives in Munich.\nThis event is in
