US-CHINA RELATIONS
IN LIGHT OF THE UKRAINE WAR
Monday, December 12th, 7pm
Join us for a special evening with Prof. Arne Westad, the Elihu Professor of History and Global Affairs at Yale. He’ll be speaking about US-China Relations in light of the Ukraine War and Germany's place in all of it. The evening will be moderated by Ambassador Eric Nelson, Associate Director of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies .
The Russian aggression against Ukraine began at a time when global tension was already running high. What will the effects of the war be on relations between the United States and China, a relationship deemed by many to be key to future peace and stability? Will the Chinese leadership continue its de facto backing of Russia? And will Russia’s leaders accept a subservient relationship to China as a price they have to pay for the war? In this talk, Professor Westad will discuss these issues in light of lessons from history.
There will be a reception following the talk, with a chance to have books signed and a glass of wine with friends old and new.
