US-CHINA RELATIONS

IN LIGHT OF THE UKRAINE WAR

Monday, December 12th, 7pm

Join us in Munich for a special evening with Prof. Arne Westad, the Elihu Professor of History and Global Affairs at Yale. He’ll be speaking about US-China Relations in light of the Ukraine War. The evening will be moderated by Ambassador Eric Nelson, Associate Director of the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies .

The Russian aggression against Ukraine began at a time when global tension was already running high.  What will the effects of the war be on relations between the United States and China, a relationship deemed by many to be key to future peace and stability?  Will the Chinese leadership continue its de facto backing of Russia?  And will Russia’s leaders accept a subservient relationship to China as a price they have to pay for the war?  In this talk, Professor Westad will discuss these issues in light of lessons from history.

To all who organized, led and joined our activities this year - thank you! Whether it was the walking tour of Mannheim, Dialogues on Democracy events in Munich, the Yale International Alliance's online common rooms, a stammtisch in Frankfurt or Munich, or concerts of the Yale Schola Cantorum on their tour of Germany, we hope you had fun and met some interesting Yalies.

If your city is not on the above list (looking at you Berlin and Hamburg), do think about organizing a get-together where you are. We are happy to post in our Facebook page and send a mailing out if you have an idea for an event.

Wishing you all Peace and Joy this holiday season!

Boola Boola,

Bartley
