Greetings to the Yale Club family in Germany,

First off, some personnel news for the club:

Welcome and thank you to our new Alumni Schools Committee officer Christian Masuch (MA International Relations '02) who has taken over the coordination of admissions interviews starting this cycle.

A huge thank you to outgoing ASC Chairperson Rebecca Haltzel-Haas (BA '90) who has been an invaluable member of the team for over a decade. Her son is applying to Yale this year, so she found it a good (and necessary) time to pass the torch. We look forward to honoring Rebecca at our next Annual General Meeting.

And welcome and thank you to our new Yale Alumni Association Club Delegate Olivia Ciacci (BA '05). Olivia will represent the Yale Club of Germany at the YAA Assembly and Yale Alumni Fund Convocation that takes place in New Haven November 20-21.

In addition, Olivia organized a Yale Book Award at the Cologne International School where she teaches English and directs the Honors Program. The award went to 11th grade student Coco Qiu, and Olivia chose to give Yale professor David Blight's excellent biography of Frederick Douglass.

With the generous support of our members, The Yale Club of Germany continues to be able to sponsor post-graduate research fellowships at Yale through the Bavarian American Academy in Munich.

The Bavarian American Academy and The Yale Club of Germany invite doctoral researchers to apply for one of two available Post-Graduate Research Fellowships at the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University.

During a one-month research stay, up to two fellows will get the opportunity to conduct research and participate in the activities of the Gilder Lehrman Center. They will be in close contact to the experts on site and have access to all of Yale University’s libraries. Congratulations to this year’s scholars, Hanna Sophia Hörl (LMU München) und Lisa Seuberth (FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg). For more information on their specific projects, see the BAA website here.

Thank you so much to all who have paid dues/donated to the club to make this possible! There are almost 700 members in Germany, so if we all donate the price of a coffee-to-go, we can continue to support this exchange. If you are interested in supporting this fantastic program, please just put “BAA stipend” in the subject line of your (in Germany tax-deductible) donation.

With that, I encourage you to watch our website or the signal/Facebook groups for upcoming local events, as well as the Munich Dialogues on Democracy website for the Fall Program of in-person and online events.

May your summer be sun-kissed (!) and rejuvenating. Hope to see you at events in the fall.

Boola Boola,

Bartley
