Happy Holidays from the Yale Club of Germany!
Thanks to you all for a fun year of Stammtische and cocktails, concerts, wine and cheese receptions, joint events with other ivy clubs, Munich Dialogues on Democracy events, and the Bulldogs taking the Ivy League with their win over Harvard at The Game. We hope you were able to join in person or virtually wherever you are, and if not - we hope you'll join us in the coming year!
We continue to post events on our website and the Yale Club of Germany Facebook page. Berlin has led the way in communication with a new Signal Group Chat this year, replacing the Berlin Facebook group. In addition to the official Yale Club information, members can post available local concert tickets, exhibits, meet-up ideas, etc. directly. It has worked fabulously, and our point-person there is Gertrude Agbozo (Yale College '05). If you would like the link to join the Berlin group, you can email Gertrude at gertrude@aya.yale.edu.
We'd love to create Signal chat groups for other cities - we just need a point person willing to make sure that no spammers join the group. If you'd like to join a Munich group, please email our point-person Alexander Schmitt Glaeser (Yale Law '89) at a.schmitt-glaeser@aya.yale.edu.
Calling anyone in Hamburg, NRW, Frankfurt etc. who would be willing to take this on for your local group! Please contact me (president@yaleclub.de) and we'll get it organized!
In 2026 we look forward to regular Stammtische in Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich. In addition, Munich Dialogues on Democracy has a robust spring '26 program online. The events will be cross-posted on the Yale Club website and are available live online if you cannot be with us in Munich. If you would like to organize something in your local area we are here to help - just let us know and we'll get the word out.
Watch this space for information on our Annual General Meeting in the spring. We are looking for options to have an in-person meeting that can also be online, combined with a tour and dinner and will send a dedicated mailing in the new year. Most of our officers are not up for re-election, but we are looking for someone willing to take on the positions of Treasurer from Hans-Christian Siller, who has been in the job for decades now. Chris has completely revolutionized our books and accounts so that the post is low-maintenance. If you think you might want to help out and you'd like more information, please write to Chris directly at chris.siller@aya.yale.edu.
Finally, we are one of the few clubs that does not require dues to be a member, but we do have to pay for our website and emails, and if we have more we use it to sponsor scholarships and book awards. In this season of giving, we ask that you consider a minimum donation of €20 (tax-deductible in Germany) to support the club. That is €1.66 per month. You can donate easily with the link on our website. We are grateful for any amount and will share the financial reporting for all at the AGM. Thank you!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday season and a good German slide into the new year!
Boola Boola,
Bartley
